ตัวอย่างบทคัดย่อ : In the course of our screening program for searching for scavenging effects on the stable radical, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) from the medicinal plants, the dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extracts from Curcuma spp (Waan En Lueang) were found to be active. The dichloromethane crude extract of this plant was selected for further separation by flash column and chromatotron. Phytochemical investigation of this active fraction led to the isolaton of two compounds, curcumin (l) and demethoxycurcumin (ll). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. In addition, compound l and compound ll showed significant free radical scavenging activity on DPPH with IC50 0.26 mM and 0.41 mM, respectively. On the other hand, the ethyl acetate crude extract was also separated by column chromatography and chromatotron. This fraction led to the isolation of three compounds. There Rf values were 0.67, 0.56 and 0.35 (Sio2, methanol-chloroform, 1:19), respectively. The characterization, structure elucidation of these compounds are in progess.
